OUR PROCESS

Our Process

Clients come to us when they are at their most vulnerable, often facing the toughest challenges of their lives. That’s why we take our client process very seriously. We know you are already straddled with enough problems – finding the right lawyer shouldn’t be one.

Here’s a brief rundown of our client process and what it’s like to work with us here at the Hills Law group

Initial Client Call

When you call our offices, we’ll ask you a few preliminary questions to assess your needs and your case. Based on the answers you give, we’ll let you know right away if we can help you. While we handle a number of family law cases, not everyone who calls us for a consultation is going to be a good fit.

Here are some of the family law services we do take care of:

  • Adoption
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution
  • Custody, including Joint Custody
  • Cohabitation
  • Divorce and Separation
  • Alimony, Maintenance, Child Support
  • Domestic Violence
  • Estate Planning
  • Genetics and Reproduction
  • International Laws (Adoption, Parental Kidnapping, Custody)
  • Marriage Requirements
  • Marital Property
  • Marital Torts
  • Mental Health
  • Parent Education
  • Paternity
  • Post-Decree Counseling
  • Premarital Agreements
  • Relocation
  • Step-Families
  • Taxation
  • Third-Party Parenting (Same Gender; Grandparents, Guardian)

Please feel free to contact us even if your reason for requiring our services is not on the list. We offer assistance in several other areas and the list is by no means comprehensive.

First Client Consultation

If we’ve determined that you are a good fit for our services, we’ll schedule you a free one-hour consultation with me to further discuss your needs. Here, you can have your initial questions answered and find out exactly how we can help you with your case.

During this one-hour consultation, you’ll be able to discuss the key points of your case with me directly. I’ll walk you through the merits of your case from the Court’s perspective, so you’ll know – from the beginning – what’s expected from you and what you can anticipate in the process of your case. From here, we can set specific goals and ways to get what you need.

Being open, honest, and clear is so important when it comes to family law cases. While we cannot predict every problem or challenge that is ahead, I do my best to navigate your specific case as timely and as successfully as possible. I work with each client to decide the best use of their time, energy, and resources when navigating emotionally charged situations such as divorce. It’s a field that I’m particularly passionate about.

By the end of the first consultation with me, you’ll have a much clearer vision of what lies ahead and how we can help you.

Deciding On a Plan of Action

From our first consultation, we’ll decide together on a suitable plan of action for your case. This is also the time that we’ll conduct a thorough cost/benefit analysis specific to your case. With many years of experience working in family law, I can show you how to use your valuable resources to get the best results. I will also be upfront on the odds of your success, right from the start, so you’ll always feel fully informed on every step we take along the way.

This is also the step in the process where you’ll sign a retainer to begin working with me. Once the retainer is signed, I start work on your case immediately, making things happen for you without delay.

Moving Forward

I start working on your case as soon as you agree to work with me. We can often have a divorce filed and served the next day. I don’t believe in drawing out a process longer than it needs to be. You should have results as soon as possible, and get moving on with what matters in life.

I believe that no divorce should be a battle, but you can make sure you’re prepared if yours becomes one.
